The Question<\/h2>\n

With the increase in non-invasive procedures, such as Kybella<\/a> and CoolSculpting, that address undesirable fatty areas, it would seem that liposuction<\/a>, a surgical procedure, would become less desirable. Do you find this to be true?<\/p>\n

Dr. Antimarino’s Response<\/h2>\n

Actually, we have seen an increase in liposuction procedures, a good percentage of those patients having tried a non-invasive treatment first with less than desirable results. It can be difficult to achieve the aesthetic outcome desired by a patient using non-invasive treatments. The truth is, liposuction is reliable and predictable in its outcomes. The procedure has been refined over time with both the technique and cannulas, to be able to contour almost any area on the body. Modern liposuction is not just about removing fat, but also contouring and shaping.<\/p>\n

Post-operatively, there is minimal downtime from work and exercise. Liposuction can be combined with other procedures such as a tummy tuck<\/a> or a breast surgery which is often referred to as a Mommy Makeover<\/a>. Liposuction is also used when having a fat transfer done as the fat is removed via small cannulas and placed in areas that an increase in volume is desired.<\/p>\n

A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is encouraged to discuss your concerns and desired results. The consultation will include an assessment and treatment plan to determine which procedure will give you the best possible outcome as well as pre and post-operative care. Open communication is always important and should include any questions about other treatments or procedures that the patient may be considering. With social media and the internet, the vast amount of information available to a potential patient should open the door to discussion with your provider prior to making a commitment. A good surgeon will always be open to dialogue.<\/p>\n
